An elementary school teacher identified as Mackenzie Naught, 25, was arrested on Sunday by Whitman County authorities at her residence in St. John, Washington state, after authorities accused of having sexual relations with a 16-year-old teenager inside a van.

According to court documents obtained by The Spokesman-Evaluation, the case came to light after the teacher’s husband, Garrett Naught, reported to police an alleged sexual relationship between his wife and a 16-year-old teenager.

The man assured that The minor, whose family he has known for a long time, confessed what happened during a call and through messages sent by Snapchat.

The encounter would have occurred inside a van

According to the investigation, the teenager and the teacher exchanged messages during the early hours of May 3 after Garrett fell asleep.

The young man told investigators that the teacher began to behave in a “flirtatious” manner and asked him to go look for her near her home around 2:15 in the morning.

Afterwards, they both headed to Harwood Hill, a nearby rural area, where They talked before kissing and having sexual relations inside the vehicle and also in the back of the truck.according to court documents.

The teenager claimed that he dropped the teacher off again near her house around 4:00 in the morning.

The teacher admitted the facts, according to the police

Naught initially denied the allegations to investigators. However, he later confirmed the version given by the teenager, according to the authorities.

The teacher indicated that she knew the young man through community activities and admitted that she knew he was 16 years old, although she stated that she saw him “as one of her friends.”

Court documents also state that Naught asked the minor not to tell what happened and admitted to the police that he knew what happened “was wrong.”

The teacher had been working as a first grade teacher at the St John Faculty District since last September.

After the accusations became known, The school district reported that the teacher was suspended while the criminal and administrative investigation continues.

Superintendent Tina Stable assured that the district is fully collaborating with authorities and reiterated the institutional commitment to the safety and well-being of students.

Naught appeared in court Monday and remains in custody with bail set at $10,000.

The teacher faces a charge of first-degree sexual conduct with a minor.

Although the age of sexual consent in Washington state is 16, authorities have not publicly clarified whether there are specific circumstances related to the accused’s position of authority or the exact moment in which the events under investigation began.
