OpenAI just launched Morning timeits most ambitious cybersecurity initiative to date. Built on GPT-5.5 and the Codex Security agent, this platform promises to detect and fix instrument flaws before an attacker has the opportunity to exploit them. And it comes directly to compete with Anthropic.
What is OpenAI Morning time and how it works
The key here is that Morning time is not just an AI model, but a complete cyber defense system. Combines the intelligence of GPT-5.5 models with the capabilities of the agent Codex Securitywhich builds an editable threat map from a company’s code repository.
That map focuses on realistic attack paths and the highest-risk code, identifies vulnerabilities in an isolated environment, and then proposes concrete solutions. What this means is that the system acts as an autonomous security team that works continuously, not just when something has already gone wrong.
Capabilities include, but are not limited to:
- Secure code review
- Threat modeling and attack path analysis
- Generation and validation of patches in isolated environments
- Risk analysis in instrument dependencies
The three GPT-5.5 Cyber models offered by Morning time
OpenAI did not release a single model but three levels of accessdepending on the type of work and the user’s verification level. This is what differentiates them:
- GPT-5.5 — The standard model with normal safeguards, for general use and development.
- GPT-5.5 with Relied on Ranking entry to for Cyber — For verified defensive work in authorized environments. Includes code review, malware analysis, and patch validation.
- GPT-5.5-Cyber — The most advanced and restricted option, available in preview for network teaming, penetration testing and controlled validation.
According to OpenAI, its previous model GPT-5.4-Cyber already contributed to correcting more than 3,000 vulnerabilities. Morning time is, in a nutshell, the natural evolution of that effort.
OpenAI vs Anthropic in the race for cybersecurity with AI
We are facing direct competition between the two most influential AI companies in the sector. Anthropic recently launched Project Glasswing and the model Claude Mythosalso focused on cybersecurity. OpenAI responded weeks later with Morning time.
The most notable difference is that, while Glasswing operates only with Claude MythosMorning time offers a family of three models with different levels of access and verification. That gives companies more flexibility to choose what level of capacity they need based on their type of operation.
Sam Altman stated that OpenAI wants to work with “as many companies as possible” to achieve continuous instrument security. The bet is to integrate cyber defense from the beginning of the development cycle, not as a final patch.
What is OpenAI Morning time?
OpenAI Morning time is a cybersecurity platform with man-made intelligence launched in May 2026. It combines the GPT-5.5 and GPT-5.5-Cyber models with the Codex Security agent to detect, analyze and repair vulnerabilities in the instrument before they are exploited by attackers.
What is the difference between GPT-5.5 and GPT-5.5-Cyber?
GPT-5.5 is the standard model for general use, while GPT-5.5-Cyber is the more advanced and restricted version, designed for specialized tasks such as network teaming and penetration testing in authorized environments. Access to GPT-5.5-Cyber requires account verification and is available in limited preview.
How is OpenAI Morning time different from Anthropic’s Project Glasswing?
Both are AI-based cybersecurity initiatives, but Morning time offers three model levels with different access controls, while Glasswing operates exclusively with Claude Mythos. Morning time also integrates agentic capabilities through Codex Security to build threat models from the code repository.
