The Guatemalan owner and chef of a standard South Los Angeles restaurant is in danger of being deported after being arrested by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents.
On the morning of Saturday, May 9, chef Carlos Lool was arrested by masked immigration agents.
“This is heartbreaking. For all the people who have had a family member or loved one taken from them by ICE, it is very sad and very humiliating.“Declared Lool’s partner and girlfriend, Jenna Lawrence, in an interview with ABC.

According to Lawrence, ICE agents followed them as they gathered supplies for a catering event they had scheduled for the weekend.
“They forcibly took him out of the car. They had him on the ground. (They) grabbed me by force, took out their weapons and took me away“, said Lool’s partner and partner.
Chef Carlos Lool is well known to his clients in Hyde Park. He is recognized for his dishes at La Granja Rotisserieas well as for the years he has mentored young cooks in the South Los Angeles area.

Lool has a criminal record in Connecticut dating back about 30 years.for a crime for which he served a sentence.
“To think that He is not going to be here taking care of everything he dreamed of building in this country, it is simply devastating.“Lawrence said.
Lool’s girlfriend said the investigation began after a former employee reported the restaurant to authorities, alleging that there was a gun inside the premises, which constituted a violation of Lool’s probation.

According to Lawrence, possession of the gun It was for the simple purpose of protection in the restaurant.
“We live in a dangerous neighborhood. We have been robbed. “There are constantly people breaking windows and jumping over the fence,” he explained.
However, after Lool’s arrest by federal immigration agents and at risk of facing deportation, Both Lawrence and the restaurant employees are uncertain about what the future holds for them..

“He has been in this country, his children live here. It’s too much and overwhelming, and he has no clothes, no cell phone, no computer. We have a business. “We are sinking deeper and deeper because they are going to deport him,” Lawrence declared.
The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has not issued any statement regarding Lool’s immigration situation and if it is imminent that he will be deported.
It is unclear whether the owner and chef of the South Los Angeles restaurant will have an appearance before an immigration judge in order to avoid deportation from the United States.
