The goalkeeper of AEL Limassol, from Cyprus, announced its presence at the next international event through a message on social networks, in which he reported his incorporation to the High Performance Center to join the concentration of the team led by Javier Aguirre. The call takes place in a context of adjustments in the goal after the injury of Luis Ángel Malagón, a situation that once again opened space for the veteran goalkeeper.

A few days ago Javier Aguirre announced the pre-list of players who will compete in the World Cup, it includes 12 elements who are active in the MX League, so there are still 14 places left that must be defined by June 1, the day on which the perfect list will be made public. And everything indicates that, in reality, there are only 13 left, since Ochoa will occupy one of them.

Mexico’s debut in the tournament will be against South Africain a World Cup that will be hosted by Mexico, the United States and Canada. For Ochoa, participation will mean equaling the number of tournaments to figures such as Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo, who would also reach their sixth World Cup.

A deepest message before the last challenge

In his publication, the goalkeeper revealed the special meaning of this new concentration, ensuring that he is going through this stage with a different perspective compared to his previous calls to the national team.

“Putting on this shirt again was never routine… it was a privilege. Today my last concentration begins. But this time I look at it differently. With a fuller heart, with more scars, more memories… and the same enthusiasm of that child who one day dreamed of defending this shield.”

The perfect ends by saying: “I am with my selection” and signs with: “Heading to the World Cup 2026″.

Ochoa pointed out that the passage of time has not changed his connection with the national team. He also recalled experiences accumulated during his international career, such as matches in emblematic venues and moments that, as he expressed, transformed his life.

The goalkeeper reaffirmed that connection with another phrase included in his message: “Am at home. I am with my selection. And as long as there is an opportunity to fight for this country… my soul will be there first.”

A historic mark for Mexican soccer

Ochoa’s career in World Cups already places him among the most important figures in Mexican football. Until now, The goalkeeper has played five editions and has conceded 11 goals in those tournaments. In addition, he managed to keep a clean sheet in four games and was never sent off in a World Cup tournament.

The next official call-up for the Mexican team has yet to be presented by Aguirre, but the player’s own statements anticipate that he will be part of the final squad, remaining for more than two decades as the most constant figure of the national team in the tournament.

Ochoa’s presence will also coincide with the beginning of a generational transition in the Tri goal, although his experience will continue to be a central piece in the team’s preparation for the competition that will start in June 2026.
