Suspect of trying to assassinate Trump during correspondents’ dinner pleads not guilty to four federal charges

Cole Allen, the suspect of attempting to assassinate the president of the United States, Donald Trump, during the White House correspondents’ dinner, He pleaded not guilty this Monday to the four federal charges against him during a court appearance in Washington.

Allen, who remains detained as the process progresses, is accused of attempted assassination, which could carry a life sentence, along with two other crimes related to the use and transportation of firearms and a fourth for assaulting an agent with a deadly weapon.

The 31-year-old man was arrested on April 26 after defying a security check. and trying to break in, armed with a shotgun, a pistol and several knives, into the lounge of a Washington hotel where the dinner was being held, with Trump present; the first lady, Melania Trump; Vice President, JD Vance; the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mike Johnson; and other authorities.

This engineer and professor from California ran past a security check and is believed to have shot an officer before being subdued by law enforcement.

Minutes before the incident, Allen sent a letter to his relatives stating that his target was members of the Trump Administration.

His attempt to enter the room where the event was being held sparked a shootout with security agents that left no victims, but forced the president and members of his Cabinet to evacuate.

He was initially charged with three counts and a fourth was added for alleged assault on an officer as part of a revised indictment filed by the District of Columbia Attorney’s Office. before a grand jury, the body charged with determining whether probable cause exists to formally prosecute a suspect in the country’s judicial system.

Last week, Judge Zia Faruqui, in charge of the case, apologized to Allen for the harsh conditions to which he was subjected in prison, after spending several days in an isolation cell despite the complaints of his lawyers. EFE
