The Prime Minister of Israel, Benjamin Netanyahu, affirmed that the conflict with Iran remains open and that there are still pending objectives related to the Iranian nuclear program, during a television interview broadcast on Sunday in the United States.

Call to dismantle Iranian nuclear capabilities

Speaking on CBS News’ “60 Minutes” program, Netanyahu maintained that, although progress has been made, there are still key elements that must be eliminated.

“I think a lot has been achieved, but it is not over, because there is still nuclear material, enriched uranium, that must be removed from Iran,” declared the Israeli prime minister.

He added that there also remain enrichment facilities that must be dismantled, as well as groups allied with Iran that continue to receive support and Tehran’s intention to develop ballistic missiles.

Context of international pressure and negotiations

Netanyahu’s statements come in a scenario marked by the demands of President Donald Trump’s administration, which has proposed as a condition for peace that Iran completely stop uranium enrichment.

Trump himself said Sunday that he reviewed the Iranian response to a peace proposal and called it “totally unacceptable.”

Iran’s stance on uranium enrichment

According to information published by The Wall Street Journal, Iranian authorities have rejected the demand to stop uranium enrichment, although they have proposed diluting part of their highly enriched uranium as an alternative.

The same report indicates that Tehran’s leaders would also have proposed transferring its remaining enriched uranium to a third country, with the condition that it could be returned if negotiations fail or the United States abandons an eventual agreement.

Possible mechanisms for the nuclear subject

In this context, Netanyahu noted that he considers it possible for a third party to intervene to manage the Iranian nuclear issue if a definitive agreement is not reached.

During the interview, the Israeli prime minister avoided going into details about military options, but mentioned previous conversations with President Trump about the feasibility of physical actions on the ground.

“If there is an agreement, you go in and get it out, why not? That is the best way,” Netanyahu added in reference to the handling of enriched uranium.

A scenario still undefined

The positions between Israel, the United States and Iran reflect a scenario of open negotiations regarding the Iranian nuclear program, in which differences persist over the level of enrichment permitted and the fate of the existing material.

While conversations and cross-statements continue, no definitive agreement has been reached between the parties involved.
