Isabel Díaz Ayuso, president of the Community of Madrid, suddenly canceled a tour she was taking in Mexico and denounced her president for allegedly having pressured the organizers of the Platino Ibero-American Cinema Awards to prevent her participation in the event.
The Spanish journalist and politician announced the suspension of her stay in Mexico and that she will not attend the aforementioned gala due to the “boycott climate” fostered by the government headed by Sheinbaum.
“The entire climate of boycott that continues to grow by the far-left Mexican government forces President Díaz Ayuso to suspend the third part of the tripwhich was planned in Monterrey, and return to Madrid,” describes a statement issued by the Madrid regional government.
However, the Mexican Ministry of the Interior emphasized that there was never any intention to prevent Díaz Ayuso’s activities or presentations.
“Regarding the visit of the president of the Community of Madrid to Mexico, the Ministry of the Interior clarifies that the tour of our country took place in an atmosphere of total freedom, which is what characterizes our government,” indicates a letter.
The 47-year-old from Madrid had previously defined Mexico as a “narco-state” whose authorities allegedly align themselves with dictatorial governments established in countries such as Cuba and Nicaragua.
To this must be added the controversial position taken by Díaz Ayuso when he demanded to vindicate the figure of the Spanish conqueror Hernán Cortés through a tribute to be organized in the Mexican capital.
Through a press release, Grupo Xcaret acknowledged that its directors made the decision to withdraw the invitation to Isabel Díaz Ayuso with the aim of preventing the event from being used as a political platform.
“With respect to the statement issued this morning by the Community of Madrid, WE CATEGORICALLY DENY having received any threats or instructions from the president of our country, Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, or any official of the Government of Mexico regarding the holding of the Platino Xcaret Awards,” part of the letter mentions.
