As a way to prevent the crowds that are generated in the next World show the delay in the improvement works in the Mexico City and in other entities such as Guadalajara and Monterrey, as well as in the rest of the countrygovernment authorities will advance the end of the school year to June 5.
Unlike the two previous editions and with much fewer matches scheduled at the Mexico headquarters in the 2026 World Cup, The authorities seek to find a solution to silence criticism for delaying the approval of the budget to remodel several works at the World Cup venues and in other entities of the country, to try to ensure that the celebrations do not affect school attendance.
🔴 Secretary Mario Delgado reported that the closing of classes will be on June 5.
📌 Administrative tasks: June 12
📌 Technical Tip: August 10
📌 Academic reinforcement: from August 17 to 28

A decision that seems illogical, since it would take place two months earlier than usual and without the study plan for primary and secondary level students having been completed, with the supposed intention of allowing them to attend the World Cup celebrations and They are also affected as little as possible by the suffocating heat that attacks Mexico at this time..
The Ministry of Public Education (SEP) officially confirmed an adjustment to the 2025-2026 school calendar for public and private basic and upper secondary education schools throughout the country, which would cause the end of classes to be six days before the opening match between Mexico and South Africa.
The proposal was approved unanimously during the LXVI Ordinary Plenary National Meeting 2026 of the National Council of Educational Authorities (Conaedu)in which the 32 state educational authorities participated along with the head of the SEP, Mario Delgado Carrillo.
According to the approach of the government authorities, the change responds to two factors that worry the federative zones, such as the high temperatures in several regions of the country and the holding of the 2026 World Cup. whose main objectives will be CDMX, Guadalajara and Monterrey.
The SEP reported that at least 10 federal entities had previously requested a modification to the school calendar due to extreme weather conditions that could affect millions of students.

But the main reason is that the authorities, together with the National Union of Education Workers (SNTE), analyzed the impact that the World Cup will have on the mobility and operation of the host cities, especially the mass congregations that could generate a bad image about the lack of planning in the works they carried out and that have generated so much criticism such as the famous cycle path in a main circulation artery from north to south and vice versa of CDMX, such as the Calzada de Tlalpan.
A cycle path was built on said communication route that has not demonstrated its efficiency. and on the contrary, it reduced road traffic by two lanes to the point that traffic jams are generated daily and that in the World Cup, in the eyes of foreign tourism, they could generate a disaster.
The federal agency indicated that this decision seeks to protect the health and safety of girls, boys and adolescents without compromising compliance with study plans and programs.
The home plight of enterprise could be an alternative
Another important point is that the federal government has also entered into negotiations with the business sector with the aim of granting home plight of enterprise schemes on match days with the same purpose of avoiding traffic cuts and impact on citizens, primarily on the days that Mexico plays.
