Kevin was hospitalized in Chicago
Kevin, 18, recorded an emotional message for his parents from his room in the University of Chicago Medical Center to say goodbye to his parents.
“I just want to tell you that I love you. I miss you. And you will always have an angel in heaven to watch over you”. The recording was made with the help of his brother, Jovany Ramírez.
Kevin González returned to Mexico
The young man traveled shortly after to Mexico, while his parents remain detained in the Florence Correctional Center, Arizona.
They were arrested last month while trying to enter the United States after their humanitarian visa application was rejected. Their lawyer has recommended them plead guilty at the court hearing scheduled for this Thursday, but it is still unknown if the judge will allow his release or deportation to Mexico before the end of his 30-day sentence.
Diagnosed with cancer
Kevin, who was born in Chicagobut lived much of his life in Mexico, he was diagnosed with cancer after falling ill during a visit to family in the city last Christmas. His condition has worsened and His family describes that he has stopped eating and drinking, raising the urgency of the situation.
The Accepted Consulate of Mexico in Tucson has confirmed that it maintains contact with the parents’ lawyers and supervises consular assistance, providing follow-up to the repatriation process.
Joaquín Catro asks ICE to release Kevin González’s parents
The American legislator Joaquin Castro spoke about the case, emphasizing the humanitarian urgency.
“Kevin González is only 18 years old. He suffers from stage 4 colon cancer and has days to live. He is desperate to spend his last moments with his parents, but ICE detained his mother and father after they tried to request humanitarian asylum. This is the full cruelty of the mass deportation machine. I ask that Kevin’s parents be immediately released so that they can be with their son,” the representative highlights on his account on the social network X.
