The first images are already giving fans and curious people something to talk about. Volkswagen decided to raise the curtain early and show a preview of what will be his Golf R more radical, a model that is not designed for everyday traffic, but to face one of the most demanding circuits on the planet.

This new chapter of the compact sports car has a clear objective. Return to the Nürburgring with a proposal completely focused on performance, leaving aside any concessions to daily use.

A project with racing DNA
The German brand works together with the Max Kruse Racing team, a partnership that makes clear the level of ambition behind the project. The goal is to compete in the 2027 Nürburgring 24 Hours with a vehicle that takes everything that the R division represents to the limit.
It’s not just any time to do it. The R family celebrates 25 years since that remembered Golf R32, and this new machine seeks to pay tribute to that history with a proposal that looks directly at motorsports.
The prototype, known as Golf R 24H, barely maintains the silhouette of the custom model. Everything else changes dramatically. The aerodynamic approach dominates every corner of the car.
The front features a large splitter, designed to generate load at high speeds. The widened wheel arches and more square lines reinforce its aggressive image, while at the rear a large diffuser appears accompanied by an imposing spoiler.
Another striking detail is the elimination of the traditional rear glass, replaced by an opaque panel that supports the spoiler. Added to this are ventilated fenders that help with both cooling and airflow.
The mystery under the hood
Volkswagen remains silent on the mechanics. There is no official confirmation about what type of engine this Golf R 24H will use.which opens the door to multiple speculations.
Some indications point to a possible electrical configuration, partly because conventional catch-away outlets are not visible in the images. However, large air inlets and elements have also been seen that could indicate another technical solution. For now, everything remains in the realm of hypotheses.
