Christopher Nolan’s cinematic universe is preparing for its next big milestone. The British director presented the new trailer for his thirteenth feature film, “The Odyssey”a monumental-scale production that promises to redefine the genre of historical epics.
The trailer, distributed by Standard Shots, offers a shocking glimpse of Odysseus’ tortuous return journey (played by Matt Damon) after the Trojan War.
The trailer not only stands out for its visual bill, recorded entirely with cutting-edge IMAX technologybut also for revealing key scenes such as the siege of the Trojan Horse and the confrontation with mythological creatures such as the Cyclops Polyphemus.
The film has a cast that has been described as one of the most ambitious of the decade. Joining Damon as the cunning king of Ithaca, we find Anne Hathaway like the faithful Penelope already Tom Holland in the role of his son, Telemachus.
The trailer also allows us to see for the first time Zendaya like the goddess Athena, protector of the hero, already Charlize Theron in the role of the nymph Calypso.
The cast is completed with figures of the stature of Robert Pattinson, Lupita Nyong’o, Jon Bernthal and John Leguizamo. According to sources close to the production, Nolan had a budget of 250 million dollarsmaking it the most expensive film of his career to date.
When will it hit theaters?
The wait for Nolan fans already has an expiration date. “The Odyssey” will be released worldwide on July 17, 2026. This date is not informal, since the film will compete directly at the box office with other major summer releases, consolidating itself as Standard Shots’ strongest bet to dominate the awards season and global collections.
With a narrative that mixes fidelity to Homer’s normal work with the visual and technical style that characterizes the director, “The Odyssey” is emerging not only as a box office success, but as an immersive cinematic experience that seeks to sell out tickets in IMAX theaters months before its debut.
