A shooting that occurred Sunday night near Arcadia Lake in Edmond, Oklahoma, left at least 23 people injuredaccording to local authorities and medical centers.
The incident occurred around 9:00 p.m. during what police reported as an “unsanctioned” party on the shores of a lake in Edmond, which had been advertised on social media and attracted a large crowd of young people, according to Fox 25.
Emergency response and number of victims
Although 13 victims were initially reported, 10 of whom were taken by emergency crews to area hospitals in various conditions, the number increased as more people arrived at emergency rooms on their own.
Edmond Police Department spokeswoman Emily Ward said during a briefing Sunday night that the victims’ injuries varied in severity and included gunshot wounds.
Hospital centers such as Integris Health Baptist Medical Heart and Integris Health Edmond Sanatorium confirmed the care of those affected. They indicated that the victims treated were between 16 and 30 years old.
So far, no arrests have been made. However, authorities indicated that there is no active threat to the community.
Police said they continue to collect testimonies and evidence, including camera recordings, to identify those responsible.
“Investigators are actively working the case and will not be releasing information about the suspects at this time,” police said.
Chaotic scene and multiple testimonies
Witnesses described a panic situation after hearing numerous gunshots during the event. Some attendees reported seeing injured people in nearby vehicles, while others sought help on their own.
The incident generated a wide mobilization of security forces, including state and local agents.
Authorities have asked anyone with information about the shooting to contact the Edmond Police Department as investigations continue.
