A 5.6 magnitude earthquake surprised the inhabitants of Mexico City this Monday, May 4, after the alerts were activated around 9:19 a.m.
According to the National Seismological Service of Mexico, the epicenter of this earthquake was recorded 24 kilometers west of Pinotepa Nacional, in the Mexican state of Oaxaca.
After the earthquake, The Mexican president, Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, reported that so far no damage or victims had been reported.

In addition to Mexico City, The earthquake was noticeable in the state of Morelos and Pueblaas well as in the municipalities of the Costa Chica region such as Ometepec, Cuajinicuilapa, Azoyú, Igualapa, Juchitán, San Nicolás, Marquelia, Copala, Tlacoachistlahuaca, San Luis Acatlán, Cuautepec, Ayutla de los Libres and Xochistlahuaca.

This earthquake is recorded just a few days before the Mexican government will carry out the “First National Drill 2026” scheduled for Wednesday, May 6 at 11:00 a.m., central Mexico time.
