Trump assures that the United States will take Cuba after the conflict in Iran

President Donald Trump affirmed that the United States will “take over Cuba almost immediately” after it returns from the conflict in Iran, raising the tone of his statements about the island and its political future.

During a private dinner Discussion board Membership in West Palm Seashore, Trump noted Friday that Any action on Cuba would occur after resolving the conflict with Iran..

“We will finish this first, I like to finish the work,” declared the president, to place the island again at the center of his foreign speech.

Announces possible deployment of the Abraham Lincoln aircraft carrier

In his speech, Trump mentioned the deployment of the aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincolnwhich he described as the largest in the world, to approach the Cuban coast. In his words, the ship could be located “at 328 feet from the shore” and provoke an alleged surrender of the island’s government.

The president reiterated that these actions would be part of a strategy after the conclusion of the conflict in Iran, without detailing specific deadlines.

New economic sanctions against Cuba from Washington

The statements come after the publication of a executive order signed by the White House that expands economic sanctions against the Government of Cuba.

The new measures focus on people foreigners and Americans that generate income for the island, and reinforce the energy embargo in force since January. They also contemplate restrictions on key sectors such as energy, mining, defense and financial services.

Any person or company linked to these activities could face the asset blockade in the United Stateswhile foreign banks that facilitate relevant transactions could be sanctioned with financial restrictions, including operations in dollars.

Expanded scope of sanctions

The executive order extends the penalties beyond Cuban government officials, including businessmen, workers and families involved in activities considered sanctioned.

Furthermore, it establish travel restrictions to the United States for those affected, except for exceptions authorized by the Secretary of State, Marco Rubio.

The document notes that the sanctions take effect immediately due to the possibility of rapid financial transfers that could evade prior notifications.

Reaction in Florida

The announcement came during an event in which Trump participated as a keynote speaker before political and business leaders in Florida, a state with a significant Cuban-American community.

The measure was celebrated by Republican congressmen of Cuban origin, including the legislator Maria Elvira Salazarwho supported the tightening of sanctions and criticized what he described as “appeasement” policies towards Havana.

Escalation of pressure on the Cuban government

Since January, the government of Trump has intensified pressure on Cuba with energy and economic sanctions, while the president has reiterated on different occasions the possibility of promoting a regime change on the island.

The US Government also maintains diplomatic contacts and has reiterated its national security position regarding the situation in Cuba, which it considers a threat to its foreign policy.
