For more than two decades, followers of The Devil Wears Prada have speculated about what real figures inspired the unforgettable characters of the magazine’s editorial staff runway. Now, the mystery has been cleared up: Leslie Fremarthe renowned Hollywood stylist, officially revealed that she is the “Emily” of real life.

In a recent participation in the podcast of Vogue“The Race-Thru,” Fremar confirmed what was an open secret in the fashion industry for years. “I am Emily,” she stated categorically.referring to the predominant assistant character that Emily Blunt catapulted to fame in the 2006 film adaptation.

The origin of a legend

Fremar worked as Anna Wintour’s direct assistant in the late 1990s.. It was during that period when she met Lauren Weisberger, the author of the normal novel, who served as the second assistant (the equivalent of Andy Sachs’ character).

“Definitely I was the one who told Lauren that ‘a million girls would kill for this position’“Fremar recalled, quoting one of the most iconic lines from both the book and the film.

According to the stylist, The relationship between the two in real life was the predominant one on which Weisberger built the office dynamic.

Despite the success of the story, FRemar confessed that the publication of the book in 2003 initially felt like a “betrayal”as Weisberger did not socialize with anyone else in the office and his interactions were purely professional. However, with the passage of time, he has learned to distance himself from fiction.

Although she admits that the film did a “great job fictionalizing” that world, Fremar assures that many of the events narrated were real experiences that she lived.
