US Government accuses Sinaloa governor of alleged links to drug trafficking

The United States Attorney for the Southern District of New York, Jay Clayton, and the Administrator of the United States Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), Terrance C. Cole, announced this Wednesday an indictment against Ruben Rocha Moyagovernor of Sinaloa, for alleged links to drug trafficking.

This accusation mentions that Rocha Moya and other high-ranking officials and former officials of Sinaloa used their positions of trust to protect the operations of organized crime, thus facilitating the entry of lethal drugs into United States territory.

“He Sinaloa Cartel “Not only does it traffic deadly drugs, but it is a designated terrorist organization that uses corruption and bribery to fuel violence and profit,” said DEA Administrator Terrance Cole.

“To protect and expand this drug trafficking empire, the Cartel has allegedly allied itself with corrupt politicians and law enforcement officials, including the defendants, who have abused their authority in support of the Cartel, exposed victims and subjected them to threats and violence, and sold their positions in exchange for large bribes,” states the indictment published by the United States Attorney’s Office.

“Certain police officers in Mexico, including some of the defendants, have directly participated in Cartel violence and retaliation, including the murder of Cartel enemies and the kidnapping of people in Mexico suspected of cooperating with US authorities in this investigation,” it is added.

Others mentioned by the US, along with Rocha Moya, are Enrique Inzunza Cazarezformer senator of Mexico representing Sinaloa; Enrique Diaz Vegabusinessman from Sinaloa who held the position
Secretary of Administration and Finance of the Government of Sinaloa; Marco Antonio Almanza Aviles, head of the Investigative Police of the People’s Prosecutor’s Office of the State of Sinaloa; and Juan de Dios Gámez Mendívil, mayor of Culiacán.
