US President Donald Trump said Wednesday that he is studying a possible reduction of US troops in Germanya message that comes after German Chancellor Friedrich Merz assured that Iran has “humiliated” his administration during negotiations to end the war.

“The United States is studying and analyzing the possible reduction of troops in Germany,” Trump said on his social network. He added that the decision could be announced in the coming days.

The United States maintains approximately 40,000 troops in Germany, which makes it the European country with the largest American military presence.

These forces are distributed across several key bases such as Ramstein and Stuttgart, which serve as command, logistics and operations centers.

According to the United States Army in Europe and Africa (USAREUR-AF), this deployment supports NATO’s “deterrence and rapid response” capability.

Trump’s displeasure over Merz’s criticism

German Chancellor Friedrich Merz criticized Washington’s strategy in the conflict with Iran on Monday and assured that the US administration has been “humiliated” in the negotiations to end the war.

Merz also maintained that the United States lacks a coherent exit strategy and warned that Tehran has been able to take advantage of Western diplomatic weaknesses in the process.

In response to these statements, Trump rejected the criticism and accused the German leader of “underestimating” Washington’s military and diplomatic pressure on Iran.

Trump insisted that his government maintains a firm stance towards Tehran and said that any European questioning ignores the progress made in terms of security and containment of the Iranian nuclear program.
