Organizers of May Day in Los Angeles call for a demonstration

Organizers of the May Day events in Los Angeles urged their supporters to take part in a demonstration this Friday to commemorate the anniversary of the “Day Without Immigrants” marches which were carried out in 2006.

Activists said Tuesday that the message of this year’s protest is a boycott that encourages participants. to stay home, not go to work or school, and avoid shopping this Friday.

“On May 1, this Friday, we will march: people with and without documents, born in the country and abroad, workers, students and families“said AJ Holman, of the California Immigrant Policy Center.

“We will fill these streets because collective action is our power, and the people, united, will not be ignored“Holman added during a press conference.

The organizers mentioned that this year’s theme, “Sole El Pueblo closes everything: no work, no school, no shopping,” commemorates the 20th anniversary of “The Long March” of 2006one of the largest public demonstrations in American history, which took place in Los Angeles.

“Historically, May Day has been International Workers’ Day“said Leslie Chang, of the Los Angeles chapter of the Democratic Socialists of America.

“This year we are emphasizing that Immigrants have also been part of the labor movement for a long time. None of this would be possible without immigrants, so it’s about uniting unions and immigrants in one fight,” Chang added.

This Friday’s demonstration in Los Angeles is scheduled to take place starting at 10:00 a.m. at MacArthur Parkin the Westlake district.
