A man identified as Zachary Lavel Jackson Jr., 29, was accused in Mississippi of murdering his mother, Lana Brown Bradley, 62, a retired teacherin a case that has been described by authorities as one of the most shocking they have witnessed.
The suspect faces charges of first-degree murder, second-degree murder, mutilation and tampering with evidence, the Adams County Sheriff’s Office reported to WJTV.
Sheriff Travis Patten He described the incident as “one of the most atrocious crimes” of his career.pointing out that this is a case that is difficult to forget even for experienced researchers.
Finding after missing person report
The events began on April 4, when the victim’s relatives reported her disappearance from her home in Natchez. The alert arose after one of her children was unable to communicate with her.
Upon arriving at the scene, the agents noticed unusual signs: the interior of the house showed signs of recent cleaning, with a strong smell of chemicals and slippery floors. According to authorities, this behavior was not common for the youngest son, later identified as the main suspect.
According to the official report, Jackson was found in the bathroom of the home, where agents observed a dark substance in the toilet. The sheriff stated that they were human remains.
The authorities maintain that The accused would have dismembered his mother’s body, placing some parts in a suitcase and allegedly trying to eliminate others through the drainage system.
Possible motive: family conflict and eviction process
Preliminary investigations point to a previous conflict between the victim and her son. According to the sheriff, Bradley had initiated legal proceedings to evict Jackson from the home, which would have generated tensions.
The day before the crime, the woman would have gone to court to advance in that process. According to family testimonies cited by the authorities, the accused showed unstable behavior, although he was also described as “calculating” in the alleged execution of the crime.
The case remains under investigation as Jackson faces multiple charges related to his mother’s death. The authorities have not offered additional details about the judicial development or possible mental evaluations of the accused.
