The Pentagon estimates that the war against Iran has cost the United States $25 billion.mainly in ammunition, since the beginning of the operation on February 28, declared this Wednesday a senior official of the War Department.

As of today, we are spending approximately $25 billion dollars on Operation ‘Epic Fury.’ Most of that amount corresponds to ammunition,” said Acting Undersecretary of War for Financial Affairs, Jules Hurst, in a hearing before the House of Representatives.

In addition, “a part of that amount is allocated to operations and maintenance expenses, as well as the replacement of equipment,” he added.

The official assured that the War Department will formulate a supplemental budget request through the White House that will be sent to Congress “once they have a complete assessment of the cost of the conflict.”

The Pentagon shared a figure on war spending for the first time during a hearing to account for the Department’s budgets before legislators, in which Secretary of War Pete Hegseth and Chairman of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff General Dan Caine appeared.

According to estimates by the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS), Already the first 100 hours of the war against Iran cost at least $3.7 billion dollarswhich translates to almost $900 million a day.

For its part, Hegseth insisted on the justification for continuing with the operationsince in his opinion Iran has not yet abandoned its nuclear ambitions and downplayed the duration of the conflict.

I remind you how long (we were) in Afghanistan and how long in Vietnam. We have been immersed in an existential struggle for the safety of the American people for barely two months. “Iran cannot possess a nuclear bomb,” he noted.

He also took the opportunity to attack those legislators who oppose the warwhom he considered the “greatest adversary” at the moment.

“The greatest challenge, the greatest adversary we face right now, are the reckless, ineffective and defeatist words of Congressional Democrats and some Republicans,” he criticized. EFE
