The first hearing in the trial for the attempted terrorist attack during a concert Taylor Swift in Vienna took place on April 28, and According to Connected Press and Reuters, it brought with it a first achievement for the prosecution: the accused declared against the event.
As revealed by agencies, Beran A., 21, acknowledged his participation in the frustrated attack that forced the singer and her team to cancel three presentations of her “Eras Tour” tour in the Austrian capital.
“Yes, I plead guilty in part,” the young man declared in court when questioned about the charges related to the case.ranging from dangerous threats to membership in a terrorist organization.
Despite this confession, The accused rejected the accusations linked to a parallel plan to carry out attacks in the Middle East.
His defense team, led by lawyer Anna Mair, extended the accused’s apology and assured that: “It was the biggest mistake of his life (…) Of course, he deeply regrets everything,” reported Connected Press.
In the documents presented by the prosecution, it is maintained that Beran A. was the main author of the attack. He is also accused of spreading online propaganda for the Islamic State group, maintaining contact with other members of the organization and attempting to purchase weapons illegally.
According to the laws of Wiener Neustadt, Austria, if you are found guilty of all the crimes you are accused of, Beran A. penalty can reach up to 20 years in prison.
It is worth mentioning that, in addition to Beran, Arda K., another 21-year-old young man who has been associated with the attack as a result of the investigation by the Austrian authorities, also appears in the same trial. In his testimony, he accepted having traveled with the intention of carrying out an attack in Türkiye, but dismissed other charges related to the Islamic network.
A third person involved in the foiled attack was identified as Hasan E. However, he currently remains in preventive detention after leading a knife attack against a security guard at the Grand Mosque of Mecca, in Saudi Arabia.
The trial against Beran A. and Arda K. for the attempted attack at one of Taylor Swift’s concerts will continue in the coming weeks, The date of his new hearing being May 12.
