The Colombian singer Shakira expressed her deep regret after confirming the death of an operator who was working on setting up the stage on Copacabana beachwhere the artist will perform this weekend.
The incident occurred on Sunday, April 26in the midst of preparations for the free show that the artist will offer on Saturday, May 2.
The victim was identified as Gabriel de Jesús Firmino, a young 28-year-old technician. According to preliminary reports from authorities and witnesses at the scene, the accident occurred when a support structure collapsed, impacting the worker and causing serious crush injuries to his lower extremities.
Despite receiving immediate first aid and being rushed to a nearby hospital, The young man could not resist the severity of the injuries.
Through a statement, the “Puntería” interpreter expressed her pain over the loss: “I am deeply saddened by what happened to the family, friends and co-workers of Gabriel de Jesús Firmin.either. “My heart goes out to his loved ones,” said the artist.
The production company Bonus Tune, responsible for the local organization of the “Todo Mundo no Rio” event, confirmed that The Civil Police of Rio de Janeiro has already started an investigationn technique to clarify the causes of the incident and verify if safety protocols were complied with.
Despite the tragedy, the organizers reported that The concert schedule continues under reinforced security measures.
The event in Copacabana is expected to bring together nearly two million peoplefollowing the model of previous massive presentations such as those of Madonna and Lady Gaga.
