Israeli strikes on the Gaza Strip killed five people on Tuesdayincluding a Hamas commander and a nine-year-old boy, Palestinian sources reported.

The Gaza Civil Defense agency indicated that Four people were killed and six others injured when a drone fired two missiles at a car in the western neighborhood of Al-Rimal, in Gaza City.

A Gazan security source identified two of the victims as Hamas commander Iyad al-Shanbari and his son Salah.

He did not mention the other two people, and there was no immediate reaction from Hamas, a movement considered terrorist by Israel, the European Union and other governments.

The Israeli military noted that it “did attack a terrorist there” and said it would provide details later.

Violence continues despite truce

Despite a ceasefire agreed in October, the Palestinian territory remains mired in violence as Israeli attacks continue, and both the Israeli army and Hamas accuse each other of violating the truce.

In a separate incident, Civil Defense reported that nine-year-old Adel al-Najjar was killed “when an Israeli drone strike took place in conjunction with artillery shelling east of Khan Younis.”

The military noted that “a suspect in the Yellow Line area approached troops, posing an immediate threat,” and entered a building, which was then attacked by the air force.

On Monday, Gaza medical services said they received the body of 15-year-old Ayham al-Omari, who was shot dead in the northern town of Beit Lahiya.

The Israeli army said soldiers in northern Gaza opened fire after identifying “a suspect (…) who posed an immediate threat.”

The ceasefire has largely stopped the war in Gaza that began after the Hamas attack on Israel on October 7, 2023.

But violence has persisted, with at least 818 Palestinians killed since the start of the truce, according to the Gaza Health Ministry, which is under the authority of Hamas and whose figures are considered reliable by the United Nations.

In the same period, the Israeli military said five soldiers have been killed in Gaza.
