The president donald trump and the first lady, Melaniareceived King Charles III and Queen Camilla of the United Kingdom at the White House this Tuesday in a pompous ceremony of honor in the gardens of the presidential residence.
The monarchs, on their first state visit to the United States since their coronation, arrived aboard an official vehicle at the residence shortly before 11:00 a.m. (3:00 p.m. GMT), where The presidential couple was waiting to receive them and listen to the national anthems of both countries together.
After the president and the monarch reviewed the troops, Trump spoke a few words in which he assured that Americans “have had no closer friends than the British.”
“We share the same roots, we speak the same language, we hold the same values and, together, our warriors have defended the same extraordinary civilization under twin banners of red, white and blue,” he declared.
The visit of King Charles III is considered one of the most complex that he has undertaken during his reign due to the delicate moment of bilateral relations, since President Trump has repeatedly criticized the British Government for not joining the war against Iran, with gestures of contempt towards the Prime Minister, Keir Starmer.
It was also assembled at a time of uncertainty after the attempted attack against the US president last Saturday during the White House correspondents’ dinner, which has forced reinforce security protocols.
