Massachusetts state authorities are investigating the death of two children, ages 7 and 6, found dead in their family residence in Wellesleyan upscale suburb located on the outskirts of Boston.
The case led to the arrest of his mother, a 49-year-old acupuncturist identified as Janette MacAuslandwho faces two counts of murder after the issuance of a warrant, according to The Boston Globe.
Arrest in Vermont and police alert
The woman was located in the state of Vermont, where she went to a family home in a state of distress and with a wound believed to be in her neck, according to police reports.
Officers from the Bennington Police Department initially responded to check on her condition, but during the interaction concerns were raised about the safety of her children, who were in Massachusetts.
This led to a request for a welfare administration at the family home in Wellesley, where Local agents discovered the deceased minors late Friday night.
Massachusetts State Police later confirmed the issuance of an arrest warrant for two counts of murder. The woman was arrested as a fugitive from justice and remains in custody awaiting her transfer to Massachusetts.
So far, authorities have not released the official cause of death of the minors.
Court records show her husband, Samuel MacAusland, filed for divorce in October after nine years of marriage. However, the police have not confirmed whether this fact has any relationship with the motive for the crime.

The children attended Schofield Predominant College, where school authorities announced the activation of psychological support teams for students and teaching staff.
The district superintendent described what happened as a “devastating and unimaginable” loss, underscoring the impact the event will have on the entire community.
Neighbors and people close to the family described the minors as active and happy children, and pointed out that the situation has generated disbelief in a town considered among the safest in the country.
A former nanny of the children expressed that both seemed to grow up in a stable environment full of daily activities, while residents of the area indicated that until days before it was common to hear them playing outside the home.
According to professional records, The woman worked in the area of acupuncture and had been linked to health centers in Boston. She was also listed as the founder of a support organization following the 2013 Boston Marathon Bombing, although her profile was recently removed from public platforms.s
The defendant remains detained in a correctional facility in Vermont and is expected to appear in court in the coming days, while procedures for her transfer to Massachusetts are coordinated.
