Minnesota faces a complex scenario in the middle of the postseason. Anthony Edwards one of its main figures, will be out of action for several weeks after suffering an injury to his left knee, in the middle of the first round series against the Denver Nuggets.
The guard left the fourth game played on Saturday night before halftime, after suffering a defensive play. Edwards was already suffering from discomfort in his right knee and ended up aggravating the situation by falling unstable after contesting a ball.. The scene forced him to leave the field assisted by members of the team.
Subsequent studies ruled out structural damage to the ligaments, a scenario that caused initial concern. However, the diagnosis confirmed a bone contusion accompanied by hyperextensionwhich implies a recovery time that will keep him out of competition for several weeks.
This a hyperextension mechanism for Anthony Edwards. What we’re excited for
Worst case scenario: ACL jog
Perfect case scenario: Bone bruise/joint capsule damage pic.twitter.com/SEb2UgyoEG

Minnesota loses key pieces in the middle of the series
The impact of the decline occurs at a key moment. The Timberwolves lead the series 3-1 against Denver and they will play the fifth game this Monday as visitors. Edwards’ availability for the remainder of the playoffs will directly depend on his team advancing to the next round.
The situation is further complicated by the absence of Donte DiVincenzo, who suffered a torn Achilles tendon during the same match. The player underwent surgery in New York and will not play again for the remainder of the season. His recovery process could be extended considerably, even affecting his availability for the next campaign.
Edwards had just had an outstanding season in offensive terms, with an average of 28.8 points per game, in addition to five rebounds and 3.7 assists. His production placed him among the league’s leading scorers.
The injury occurred in a defensive action against Cameron Johnson when he tried to block a shot. When he fell, his knee adopted an irregular position, which caused him to be unable to continue in the match.
In that same game, Minnesota won 112-96, a result that left them one win away from advancing in the series. Even so, the sports panorama is redefined with the absence of two pieces of the starting quintet.
The immediate schedule poses a challenge for the team, which will have to maintain its advantage without one of its most decisive players. Edwards’ evolution will be key to defining whether he can rejoin in an eventual next phase.
