The news fell like a bucket of cold water for those who trust in one of the best-selling decide-usas on the market. Ford Motor Firm is once again at the center of the scenethis time for a new security campaign that involves the Ranger in its most recent versions. The reason is not minor, since it is a potential fire hazard.

The measure affects 140,201 units corresponding to the 2023, 2024 and 2025 models. Although the number is impressive, the truth is that the decision aims to avoid major problems before they escalate.

You can investigate cross-test: Something is happening: electric cars are losing steam in the US.

The brand already has a recent history of calls for review, which fuels the focus on its management processes.

A hidden fault in the roof

The origin of the problem is not visible to the average driver. Everything points to a problem in the electrical system, specifically in the wiring located between the sun visor and the headliner.

According to investigations, that harness could have been installed incorrectly or had protective tape that was too thick.

That detail, which seems minor, can end up being critical. With use and the passage of time, the wiring can deteriorate and come into contact with metal parts of the vehicle. This friction is enough to cause short circuits, heat generation and even sparks that, in the worst scenario, lead to a fire.

Besides, The problem is located near the A pillar, a key area in the vehicle structure and very close to the driver. This increases the level of risk, since any incident could affect visibility or generate a sudden reaction while driving.

Warning signs that should not be ignored

Before the problem escalates, there are certain signs that may appear. Some users may notice that the mirror lights on the visor flash irregularly or stop working altogether. Failures may also occur in the interior ceiling lighting.

Other more worrying signs include a burning smell or the presence of light smoke inside the cabin. In many cases, these symptoms are linked to the code of error DTC B14AAwhich the vehicle system identifies as a short circuit in the sun visor illumination.

The case came to light in October 2025when company engineers analyzed a reported fire in a model Ranger 2024. From that episode onwards, patterns began to appear that set off internal alarms.

The technical analysis detected several possible causes. Among them, the use of materials that, although they meet standards, could behave inappropriately under specific conditions. Faults in wiring routing and possible improper contact with the bodywork were also identified.

The critical review team confirmed another key point. Repeated resets of the body management module can generate small cumulative electrical arcs. Over time, this phenomenon increases the risk of fire.

Few cases, but immediate action

So far, the company has reported three warranty claims, two field reports and one direct customer case. In total, only four vehicles have had incidents. One of them recorded flames, while the others showed smoke or visible damage.

No accidents or injuries were reported, but the decision was to move forward with the withdrawal preventively.

The solution includes a complete system inspection, DTC history review, replacement of damaged parts, and a vehicle system update. This new system will automatically cut off the power if it detects repeated failures.

Repairs will be at no cost to owners. Notifications will begin to be sent from April 27, and users will be able to check if their unit is affected using the VIN number or at official dealerships.
