Actress Marissa Bodeknown for playing Nessarose in the film adaptations of “Cross,” filed a complaint against the airline Southern Airways after stating that they prevented her from boarding a flight because she was a wheelchair userdespite the fact that its representative had previously consulted with the company.

Bode took to the social network TikTok to express his outrage. “I was denied boarding on a flight because I am disabled. I wish it were a sensational headline. I wish it was fake, but that’s what happened“, declared the actress.

According to his account, the incident occurred during a connecting flight with Southern Airways, an airline that he described as “extremely small.” Bode explained that he didn’t have many options to get to his destination, a small town in Pennsylvania. Upon arriving at the gate, he asked two employees for help in locating his digital boarding pass.

“The two people at the door looked at me and asked, ‘Can you stand up?’ I told them no. And they replied: ‘We’re sorry, but that’s why we can’t board.’”said the actress.

The workers explained to him that all of that airline’s planes have stairs to climb, which Bode described as “incredible,” since he had never heard anything similar.

The actress also reported that her manager contacted Southern Airways before booking the flight for confirm that they could make the necessary arrangement for your wheelchairand the airline assured that there would be no problem.

Frustrated by what happened, Bode launched into criticism: “Why do we keep waiting for a person with a disability to be present to even think about changing things or making accommodations? People with disabilities are not an afterthought.” And he sentenced: “This is clear discrimination.”

Response to the complaint

After her first video went viral, Bode shared that the director of Southern Airways’ mobility department contacted her. “They called me in. The director was very embarrassed. She was very apologetic and very understanding, which I greatly appreciate”noted the actress.

He added that the airline is internally investigating how the incident happened, especially since they called ahead to inquire about accommodations, and that they remain in contact with it to improve in the future.
