The experience of having served as Secretary of State during Donald Trump’s first stage in the presidency supports Mike Pompeo’s point of view by casting doubt on the possibility of reaching an agreement with the Iranian government in the short term to end the war that began on February 28.
During a statement aired on WABC 770 AM’s “Cats & Cosby Conceal,” The Californian conservative admitted to distrusting the Islamic Republic.
“I think that International experience with Iranian negotiators shows that they are going to buy time, delay the process and try to lengthen it unnecessarily. “I doubt President Trump will allow this to continue for much longer,” he said.
Although it was expected that a second round of talks would be held this weekend in Pakistan, which would be led by Jared Kushner, Donald Trump’s son-in-law, and Steve Witkoff, special envoy, The announcement by Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, ruling out a face-to-face meeting with his American counterparts, forced Washington to back down.
A couple of weeks ago, James David Vance traveled to Islamabad, Pakistan, to participate in a first approach with Iranian diplomacy, but after 21 hours nothing was achieved.

Based on the latest events, Mike Pompeo foresees that relations between Washington and Tehran will become more tense to the point that the ceasefire offered by Trump will possibly be diluted.
“I suspect that before long we will be back to the blockade and trying to inflict more damage on the Iranians. I hope that an agreement is reached that is very beneficial for the United States, for Israel and for the Gulf countries, but I am not optimistic,” he emphasized.
Some analysts agree that the Iranians’ problem lies in the lack of a leader to truly negotiate, this as a result of the delicate state of health affecting Mojtaba Khamenei, son of the assassinated Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who was injured during a US attack and allegedly had to have his leg amputated.
“I’m not sure there is anyone who can speak for the entire Iranian military yetso I don’t know who will sit across from them at the negotiating table,” said Mike Pompeo.
