A profound restructuring shook the Boston Red Sox at the start of the season. The organization decided to end the cycle of the Puerto Rican leader Alex Coraalong with several members of his coaching staff, in the midst of an irregular performance that leaves the team with mark of 10 wins and 17 losses.

The movement was not limited to the predominant bench. Hitting coach Peter Fatse, third base coach Kyle Hudson, bench coach Ramón Vázquez, assistant hitting Dillon Lawson and offensive strategist Joe Cronin were also dismissed. In parallel, Jason Varitek was reassigned within the club structure to a new role.

The transition already has a provisional manager. Chad Tracy, who has been managing the Triple A team in Worcester since 2022, will take over on an interim basis.

A legacy marked by the 2018 title

Cora leaves the organization after eight seasons leading the team and with an accumulated steadiness of 619 wins and 541 losses. His stage was marked by the conquest of the World Series in 2018, an achievement achieved in his first year as manager.

The team’s owner, John Henry, recognized the coach’s impact on the institution in a statement. “Alex Cora led this organization to one of the best seasons in Red Sox history in 2018, and for that, as well as for the many years that followed, You will always have our deepest gratitude.”, he noted.

In the same message, Henry highlighted the influence of the Puerto Rican beyond sports results. “He has had a lasting impact on this team and this city. He has provided leadership both on and off the field in many important ways. These decisions are never easy, but this one in particular is especially difficult given what Alex has meant to the Red Sox since the day he arrived.”

The announcement came after a resounding 17-1 victory over the Baltimore Orioles, a result that snapped a four-game losing streak. Those setbacks included a sweep at Fenway Park against the Recent York Yankees.

Cora made history in 2018 by becoming the second Latino manager to win a World Series in the Major League.s, following the precedent established by the Venezuelan Ozzie Guillen in 2005.

The change of direction marks a new chapter for Boston, which seeks to reorganize its sports structure after a start to the campaign below expectations.
