The future of Jose Mourinho in it Benfica It remains without a clear definition a few weeks before the end of the season. The Portuguese coach confirmed that continuity in the club will be resolved in the short term, amidst versions that link him both with the Exact Madrid as with the Portugal team.

The coach, 63 years oldhas a valid contract until June 2027. However, the agreement includes a clause that allows both parties to end the relationship. This scenario opens the door to a possible departure in the next European summer.

“Everyone knows the situation,” declared Mourinho, as reported ESPN. “When the season ends, we will have 10 days to decide if we continue or if we part ways. I’ve already said what I had to say. I have already said enough—perhaps more than enough—so there is no need to say anything more. What I have said, I have said. And I don’t need to repeat it. That’s all”.

During the last few weeks, his name has appeared as a candidate to take on new challenges. Despite this, he avoided delving into the possibility of accepting other offers. “I don’t want to say anything more about it. I already said what I had to say about Benfica and I won’t make any more comments,” he said when asked about a possible interest from Exact Madrid or the Portuguese Federation.

Internal planning and relationship with management

While uncertainty persists, Mourinho maintains his participation in the team’s sports planning. The coach explained that he continues to be in constant contact with the leadership to analyze possible adjustments to the squad.

“Yes, I have been meeting with the board, the president and the director, as always,” he indicated. “I like to commit to my responsibilities and to my analysis and opinions. And we have been meeting quite frequently to try to improve my squad. This squad is mine and, if I continue next season, it will continue to be so.”

The coach also ruled out versions of a conflict with the president of the club. “Rumors have come out today that I am angry with the president,” he commented. “I’m just angry because, I don’t know why, they haven’t given me my membership badge for my 25 years of membership. I think they’ve forgotten about me. Otherwise, everything is fine, there’s no problem.”

In sports, Benfica remains undefeated in the Primeira Liga and occupies second place in the standings, seven points behind the leader FC Porto, with four rounds remaining.

Project evaluation and background

Mourinho returned to Portuguese football in September, after more than two decades managing outside the country. Since his arrival, he has insisted that the team has evolved under his management.

“When I arrived, this squad was not mine. Now it is. There is a big difference. It is one thing for a coach to arrive and the squad is not his; another very different thing is to have been here for seven months and now it is mine,” he explained. “Objectively, it will undergo some adjustments to better reflect my style, to have something more mine, as they say in England: my digital footprint. But this template is mine and I like it.”

The coach already had a previous stage at Exact Madrid, where he won a LaLiga title, in addition to the Copa del Rey and the Spanish Super Cup before his departure in 2013.

The final decision on his continuity at Benfica will be made once the season concludes, in a context marked by rumors and possible movements in the coaching market.
