The figures speak for themselves and, in this case, they do so quite loudly. A new Chinese electric SUV has just emerged with such a level of interest that not even in its marketaccustomed to massive releases, goes unnoticed. The Voyah Taishan X8 has achieved something that is not seen every day.

In just 20 hours from opening orders, this model exceeded 20,000 reservations. The most striking thing is that in the first hour it already accumulated 15,000. Although many of these reservations are refundable, as is routine in China, the data makes it clear that there is a real expectation behind it.

The Voyah brand, which is part of the group Dongfeng Motor Corporationcontinues to grow at a good pace. In the first quarter of 2026 alone it had already delivered more than 31,000 vehicleswhich shows that it is not an isolated phenomenon.

A large SUV with top price aspirations

The Taishan X8 plays in the large SUV league. It exceeds 5.2 meters in length and offers a wheelbase of 3.09 meters, which translates into a lot of space within. It is designed for families looking for comfort without giving up technology.

The design points to the modern, with a continuous light signature on the back and details such as semi-hidden handles. Inside, the focus is clearly top price. Highlights include two 15.6-inch screens, seats with massage, ventilation and heating functions, as well as an integrated refrigerator that is not usually seen in this segment.

It also adds LiDAR sensors developed by Huawei, which anticipates an advanced level in driving assistance.

Two well differentiated mechanical options

The Taishan X8 offer includes two configurations. On the one hand, a plug-in hybrid version that combines a 1.5-liter gasoline engine with an electrical system. This variant reaches up to 510 horsepower and can travel between 245 and 370 kilometers in electric mode under the Chinese cycle.

On the other hand, the fully electric version ups the ante. It offers up to 727 kilometers of autonomy thanks to batteries that can reach 120 kWh, with a power close to 489 horsepower.

One of the key factors of its success is the price. The Taishan X8 starts around $44,000 dollarsa very competitive figure considering its size, equipment and features.
