The clay court season will have a different outcome than expected. The Spanish Carlos Alcaraz confirmed that will not participate in the Rome tournaments or Roland Garroswhere he had to defend the title, due to an injury to his right wrist that he has been carrying since mid-April.

The announcement came after undergoing medical tests that led his team to make a conservative decision. “After the results of the tests carried out today, We have decided that the most prudent thing is to be cautious and not participate in Rome and Roland Garros, waiting to assess the evolution to decide when we will return to the court,” the tennis player published.

The absence implies a relevant turn in the calendar, especially in the Parisian Gigantic Slam, where He will not be able to defend the 2,000 points obtained as current champion. Nor will he be in the Masters 1000 in Rome, a tournament in which he also defended 1,000 points after his victory in the previous edition.

Injury, resignations and a conditional calendar

The origin of the problem dates back to April 14during his debut in the Barcelona tournament against Otto Virtanen. Although he managed to win that match, discomfort in his right wrist forced him to retire before playing the round of 16.

Since then, his calendar began to change. His participation in Madrid was already compromised, and was finally also ruled out. At that moment, the player himself expressed the emotional impact of the decision: “There is news that is very difficult to give. Madrid is home, one of the most special places on the calendar for me, and that is why it hurts me so much not to be able to play here for the second consecutive year. It especially hurts me not to be able to be in front of my people.”

During his appearance in Laureus Awards in the Spanish capital, had anticipated that medical tests would be decisive in defining his presence at Roland Garros. The result ended up confirming his withdrawal from the second Gigantic Slam of the year.

The situation opens the competitive panorama in Paris and clears the way for other candidates, including the Italian Jannik Sinnerreal number one in the world ranking.

Support messages and next steps

The recovery process will mark the next move in the Spaniard’s career. As expected, he will not return to the slopes at least until the start of the grass season.

“It is a difficult moment for me, but I am sure that we will come out stronger from here,” he said in his statement.

The announcement also generated reactions within the circuit. Rafael Nadal sent a public message of support: “Good luck, Carlos! I hope you have a recovery as quickly as possible. These moments of difficulty highlight everything you are doing. A lot of strength and a big hug!”
