Liga MX makes the sale of Atlas and the arrival of Atlante official

The club owners of the Liga MX They made the arrival of the Atlantean in relief of Mazatlán, whose owners withdraw after five years considering that it is no longer viable to continue investing in the port, with which the Potros return to the top circuit after twelve years of absence.

They also gave the green light to the sale of the Atlas, With which the Orlegui Group headed by Alejandro Irarragorri transferred its federative rights to José Miguel Bejos, a businessman who years ago became involved with the sport by acquiring the Pericos de Puebla, in the Mexican Baseball League.

The above was confirmed by Grupo Orlegui through a press release: “The Extraordinary Assembly of the Mexican Football Federation (FMF) has approved, in its ordinary session held on this date, the sale of Atlas FC, derived from the agreement reached between PRODI and Orlegi, by which the first business group acquires ownership of the club. The operation is subject to the authorization of the National Antimonopoly Commission (CNA).”

Grupo Orlegi owned the Atlas for almost seven years, from May 29, 2019 until April 2026, when its sale to Grupo PRODI was announced. During this period, the administration of Alejandro Irarragorri transformed the team, achieving the historic two-time championship (Apertura 2021 and Clausura 2022.

During this period of time, many urban legends were heard about the way the owners of Atlas sought to reach the top of Mexican soccer and They achieved it with a two-time championship that left a drought of almost 50 years of not being crowned the team of the whereabouts.

Orlegui also explained that: “The transaction responds to the shared vision of the parties to consolidate the institutional stability of the club. and ensure the continuity of a comprehensive, long-term, sustainable sports project aimed at strengthening its competitive performance and structural development,” he stated.

“During his management, Orlegi has promoted a comprehensive transformation process of Atlas FC in the sporting, institutional and financial spheres.. Among the main results stands out the obtaining of a two-time Liga MX championship – after more than seven decades without titles -, the development of high-performance infrastructure of reference in the region in the construction of the AGA Academy, as well as the consolidation of its talent training processes, professional structures, operational stability and foundation for sustained growth,” the information to the media also established.

Atlante returns after 12 years of absence

In other key issues of the Liga MX Owners’ Assembly, the arrival of Atlante was made official and the following was stated in the press release: “The Assembly welcomed the owner of the Atlante Membership, Emilio Escalante, who thanked the trust. Likewise, he bid farewell with affection and recognition to the representative of Mazatlán FC, Gustavo Guzmán, for his contributions to soccer.”

Atlante shared a statement informing of its long-awaited official return to Liga MX, after the owners’ assembly approved the acquisition of Mazatlán FC’s membership certificate.

It was also confirmed that Atlante will return to play at the Banorte Stadium (Azteca) to share a house with América and Cruz Azul, where it will choose the Mazatlán schedule, on Friday nights with TV Azteca broadcast, for the next two years.
