The results of a report developed by the Civic Health and Establishments Project (CHIP50) based on data collected through a survey of more than 30,000 Americans in all 50 states of the country, point out that, regardless of their political affiliation, age or gender, more and more citizens are against the detention of immigrants carried out during the operations of the Immigration and Succor Customs Enforcement Service (ICE) watch over
Thanks to the efforts of researchers from Harvard University, Northeastern University, Rutgers University and the University of Rochester, it was possible to prepare the report called “Attitudes toward immigration: Public opinion turns against the Administration’s policies.”
The work consisted of comparing the data arising from two national surveys: the first, carried out between December 18, 2025 and January 27, 2026, during the intensification of ICE’s preserve-a-watch-on operations in Minnesota; and a follow-up survey, carried out between February 13 and March 2, 2026, the date on which federal agency staff were ordered to withdraw from that state.
This is how it was determined that opposition to the detentions of foreigners lacking mere status is now greater in all partisan, age and gender groups studied.

At the national level, rejection of the application of immigration laws went from 52.9% to 59.2%, an increase of 6.3 percentage points.
As of February, nearly three in five Americans disapproved of ICE’s actions.
In addition, The way President Donald Trump handles immigration continues to be disapproved and with an upward trend from forty eight.8% to 54.4%.
In more precise terms, rejection of ICE raids in workplaces increased 5.8 points; while disapproval of using the army to detain and deport immigrants rose 4.2 points.
Another significant fact is that, among independent voters, disapproval of ICE’s performance exceeded 64%, with an increase of 5.6 points; while the rejection of Donald Trump’s management for the management of immigration reached 57.7%.
