As the premiere of “The Satan Wears Prada 2”the absence of one of the best-known faces from the original film has generated an intense debate in Hollywood. David Frankel, director of the long-awaited sequel, finally broke his silence on the decision not to include Adrian Grenierwho played Nate Cooper, the boyfriend of protagonist Andy Sachs.
In exclusive statements collected by specialized media such as Page SixFrankel explained that The plot of this new installment focuses on a completely different stage of life for Andy (Anne Hathaway).
“The story has evolved, and so has Andy. We wanted to explore his professional and inner maturity in an environment that no longer has room for the domestic conflicts of the past.“said the filmmaker.
The “true villain” of the story?
A determining part in this decision was the public perception over the last two decades of Grenier’s character.
In recent years, the character Nate has been the subject of rigorous analysis on social networkss, where thousands of fans have classified him as the “true villain” of the story for his lack of support for Andy’s ambitions.
Frankel admitted that this narrative influenced the development of the script. For its part, Adrian Grenier recently expressed his disappointment at not getting the call for the projectalthough he humorously acknowledged that “hatred of Nate” probably sealed his fate.
“I understand that there was a negative reaction to the character, and that left room for Andy to explore new horizons,” commented the actor.
The sequel, which premieres this coming May 1, will focus on the exact rivalry between Miranda Priestly (Meryl Streep) and a successful Emily Charlton (Emily Blunt)definitively leaving behind the drama of the apartment on the Decrease East Side.
