Cuauhtémoc Blanco is one of the great legends of Mexican soccer. “Cuauh” was one of the leaders of the Águilas del América in multiple National Classics. Camilo Romero revealed the difficulties of facing Cuauhtémoc. Romero fell for the provocations of the talented Mexican soccer player.

Facing Cuauhtémoc Blanco was not an easy task for any defender. The quality of “Cuauh” was undeniable. But to that is added a psychological game that he knew how to establish in his rivals. Camilo Romero recalled how the former Mexican national team player provoked him.

Asshole, he told me, ‘asshole, asshole’. And I was hot in the game, he told me, ‘come, what do you want? Come, so you can appear on TV’, he told me. So that you would come closer to him. ‘Yes, so that you can appear on TV, asshole,’ Camilo said in an interview with Yosgart Gutiérrez.

Camilo Romero fell into the trap many times. The former Mexican defender recalled that sometimes He responded to Cuauhtémoc with strong tackles into the field. But the América footballer wanted to play on this field.

“I don’t know why, because he wanted to distract you, he wanted to take your… The bastard was talking and talking… I did kick him. Yes, yes, I did, to see if you controlled it, right?; Even with Claudio, you know that before they reach an agreement, I told him, ‘no, wait for me, leave me, I’ll give it to him,'” he recalled.

But Camilo Romero was able to see both sides of the coin. The former Chivas de Guadalajara defender had to put aside all his previous problems with “Cuauh” in order to maintain good harmony in the Mexican team. But this was not a difficult task. Cuauhtémoc Blanco was a completely different player when you had him on your side.

“Cuauhtémoc was such a bold guy who played with his football and played with the opponent, right? So it was a virtue of him. It was a virtue of him that later I was in the national team and I was a roommate and we laughed our asses off.I mean, we were laughing because he’s a guy, a 10 point character“Romero explained.
