An approximately six-month-old baby was found abandoned Tuesday night in Times Squarein the heart of The huge apple, reported the New York Police Department (NYPD).
The discovery occurred around 11:00 pm at the intersection of Broadway and West 44th Street, one of the busiest areas of the city. The minor was located inside a stroller, conscious and alert, although alone on public roads, according to the New York Publish.
Paramedics transported the girl to a nearby hospital, where she was evaluated and is reported to be in stable condition.
Suspicions about the father and ongoing search
The authorities have focused the investigation on the minor’s father, who would be the last person seen with her. According to police reports, The man would have fled after abandoning the stroller, which even ended up overturned on the sidewalk.
Detectives are working on collecting images from security cameras in the area and conducting interviews with residents and merchants to reconstruct the events.
According to the first hypotheses, The father—presumably homeless—would frequent the Times Square area.. It is also being investigated whether the incident occurred after a dispute with the girl’s mother.
So far, no arrests have been made.
The abandonment of minors in public spaces is a crime in the state of New York. However, the legislation provides legal mechanisms for parents who cannot or do not wish to take care of their children.
Under the Law for the Protection of Abandoned Infants, parents can hand over a baby to safe places such as police stations, hospitals or fire stations, as long as its integrity is guaranteed.
In the case of older children, the regulations establish that they must be delivered to authorized child services offices.

The case occurs amid a climate of growing concern about the safety of minors in the United States. In early April, a seven-month-old baby died in Brooklyn after a gang-related shootinga fact that generated reactions from local authorities.

Witnesses and workers in the area expressed dismay after learning of the incident. Some noted the seriousness of abandoning a baby in nighttime conditions and in a high-traffic urban environment.
“It’s devastating,” commented a local merchant, while others agreed that the case could be related to social or mental health problems.
The NYPD maintains an active investigation to locate the person responsible and clarify the exact circumstances of the abandonment.
Meanwhile, the minor remains under medical care and protection from the authorities, waiting to determine her family situation.
