A United Airways flight covering the route between Chicago and New York was emergency diverted to Pittsburgh after a suspicious sound was detected on board. The authorities activated security protocols, but ruled out the presence of explosives.
The aircraft, which was flying about 37,000 feet above Lake Erie, changed its course toward Pittsburgh Global Airport after the crew detected an unusual sound, according to Each day News.
Suspected artifact and diversion decision
According to cabin communications, The pilots alerted to a “sequential beep” coming from an unidentified object inside the plane.
Given the possibility of a threat, the crew decided to treat the situation as a potential explosive device and proceed with an emergency landing.
The airline noted that the diversion was made due to a “possible security concern,” without initially confirming a specific threat.
The plane landed safely around 12:30 p.m. and The 159 passengers, along with six crew members, were evacuated using emergency slides.
Specialized teams, including bomb squads and federal agents, searched the aircraft, luggage and passengers.
Research result
Allegheny County authorities reported that no explosive was found.
After an exhaustive review with canine units and device disposal specialists, the incident was declared a false alarm.
No injuries were reported and the case was closed without further consequences.
