The perpetrator of the shooting that left this Monday at least two dead and 13 foreigners injured in the archaeological zone of Teotihuacán was identified as Julio César Jasso27 years old and resident of Mexico City, according to Mexican authorities.
The identification was made after the discovery of a voter ID card at the site, whose data and photograph coincide with the man who appears in the videos of the shooting spread on social networksaccording to media reports with information from local authorities.
For his part, the Secretary of Security and Citizen Protection, Omar García Harfuchrevealed in a press conference that the aggressor was located and neutralized in a matter of minutes after being wounded by the authority in the leg.
“This intervention prevented him from continuing to attack and prevented the loss of more lives. That is, if he had not been injured by elements of the National Guard, it is most likely that this subject would have taken the lives of more victims,” the official added.
In addition, he explained that, upon seeing himself surrounded by security forces, the aggressor took his own life.
He allegedly admired the Columbine massacre
The attacker allegedly admired the Columbine High School massacre and the Nazi dictator Adolf Hitleraccording to Mexican media reported this Tuesday.
The person responsible for the shooting left at the crime scene a photo frame with an image generated by manmade intelligence in which he appeared alongside the Columbine killers, Eric Harris and Dylan Kleboldwho committed suicide in 1999 after killing 13 people and wounding 24, according to the Telediario television network.
That massacre, considered the first mass school shooting in the United States, occurred on April 20, the same day as this Monday’s attack in the tourist area of the Teotihuacán pyramids, where at least one Canadian tourist died.
The same network, which cites the authorities’ investigation, assured that several photos of the murderer show him posing with the Nazi salute popularized by Hitler, who was also born on April 20, and that other evidence points to his extremist ideology.
