The president of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum, said this Tuesday that the presence of US agents in Chihuahua is investigated (northern Mexico) and whether his actions exceeded the Mexican upright framework, following the death over the weekend of two US officials and two Mexicans in an accident following an anti-drug operation.

During her morning conference, the president noted that The case deserves a thorough investigation because, he said, the Chihuahua prosecutor changed his version of what happened. and so far the information that your Government has indicates that there was joint work, although it is still necessary to specify which agency the Americans were from and under what conditions they operated.

She added that state authorities must provide truthful information about what happened, since the president stressed that the relationship with United States agencies is regulated by the Constitution and the National Security Law and the states cannot coordinate directly with US authorities without going through the central government.

In addition, he explained that joint operations with foreign agencies or authorities on land are not permitted.

As he explained, The only thing authorized is the exchange of information and intelligence work, so that each country acts in its own territory.

Sheinbaum maintained that, if it is confirmed that there was a joint operation outside that framework, it will be necessary to review the appropriate legal and diplomatic actions.

He even warned that there would be a request for any activity by US agencies in Mexico to strictly comply with national legislation.

The Mexican president also said that Explanations must be requested from both the United States Embassy and the Government of Chihuahua.

The case broke out after the US Embassy confirmed the death of two US officials and two researchers from Chihuahua in an accident in the mountains, after actions against clandestine laboratories in Morelos, in the same northern state of Chihuahua.

At first, the state prosecutor declared that the agents were returning from the operation, but later clarified that the Americans did not directly participate in securing the drug laboratory and that they were carrying out training tasks.

The controversy grew when The Washington Submit reported that the two Americans allegedly belonged to the CIA and they had intelligently supported an operation against drug trafficking, in a context of greater pressure from Washington on Mexico in terms of security and political sensitivity for national sovereignty.

Sheinbaum said that he only exchanged condolences with the American ambassador and that official contacts will continue later to clarify the case. EFE
