The United States Department of State announced that it is taking steps to impose visa restrictions on 75 people who are family members or linked to the Sinaloa Cartel.

“Today, the State Department is taking steps to impose visa restrictions on 75 people who are family members or close personal or business associates of people linked to the Sinaloa Cartel sanctioned under Executive Order 14059which imposes sanctions on foreign persons involved in illicit drug trafficking worldwide,” a statement said.

Without mentioning the names of these people, US authorities point out that the measure corresponds to the fact that President Donald Trump is using “all the power of the United States” to eradicate cartels considered terrorist.

The actions taken today underscore the Trump Administration’s commitment to protecting the American people from the Sinaloa Cartel.a designated foreign terrorist organization,” the letter states.

President Trump’s Administration specifies that these measures will help deter criminal activities by people related to the Sinaloa Cartel in addition to fentanyl trafficking in US territory.

“The Sinaloa Cartel traffics fentanyl, an illicit substance that the President has classified as a weapon of mass destruction, and other lethal drugs that harm American communities. Imposing visa restrictions on drug traffickers, their family members and close business and personal associates will not only prevent their entry into the country, but will also deter the continuation of their illicit activities.”, he concluded.

Washington has designated the Sinaloa Cartel as a foreign terrorist organization and holds it responsible for trafficking fentanyl and other synthetic drugs into the United States.
