An immigrant of Mexican origin, whose name is not revealed to protect her identity, is leading a lawsuit against President Donald Trump’s government for ending automatic extensions of the Employment Authorization Document (EDA).

The lawsuit on behalf of Jane Doe was filed by Public Citizen Litigation Community and Asylum Seeker Advocacy Mission (ASAP).

“Like many immigrants with prison status, the plaintiff in this case—who presents herself as Jane Doe—depends on work authorization from the federal government to work and support her family,” the plaintiff organizations indicate.

Regarding the woman leading the lawsuit, it is indicated that she is originally from Mexico and has lived in the United States for almost ten years, in addition to being the sole supporter of her eight-year-old daughter, who is a US citizen.

“For decades, federal immigration officials have understood that immigrant workers should not be excluded from the labor market simply because the government did not process their work permit applications quickly enough,” stated Stephanie Garlock, an attorney with Public Citizen Litigation Community. “With this new regulation, the Trump administration illegally eliminated the safeguards necessary to protect immigrant workers like our client, without taking into account the opinions of immigrants, employers, communities and other directly affected people who will be harmed.”
