It is not a failure that is easily seen, but it is one that can become a serious problem if it is not detected in time. Kia and Genesis turned on the alarms after identifying a defect that could cause fuel leaks in some of its recent models, a situation that increases the risk of fire under certain conditions.

The notice has already been formalized before the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration in the United States on April 10.

From there, concern began to grow among owners, dealers and sector specialists, especially due to the number of units involved.

The models affected and the extent of the problem

In total, the recall affects more than 230,000 vehicles manufactured between 2021 and 2026. Within that figure, Genesis concentrates an important part with models such as GV70, GV80, G80 and G90, which together add up 94,760 units.

On the side of kiathe focus is on the carnivala minivan that, despite being the only model involved in the brand, accumulates 141,032 affected units.

What exactly is going wrong?

The source of the problem is in a key component of the fuel system. This is a tube that connects different lines inside the engine and, under normal conditions, should remain perfectly tight.

However, a variation in the manufacturing process would have caused some fasteners to lose firmness over time. When that happens, there is a possibility of small fuel leaks appearing. And that is where the real risk appears, because a source of heat or a spark is enough for the situation to escalate quickly.

Although not all vehicles will present faults, there are certain signs that can serve as a warning. One of the most obvious is the smell of fuel, whether inside or outside the car. The engine warning light may also appear or even visible traces in the engine compartment.

From 2024both brands began to collect isolated reports related to this type of symptoms. In total, at least 129 cases that helped identify the pattern and advance the investigation.

The solution and what owners should do

Both Kia and Genesis have already defined the action plan. Affected vehicles will be inspected free of charge to verify the condition of the fuel system. If there is no damage, the components will be adjusted. Otherwise, the entire part will be replaced.

In addition, the brands confirmed that they will cover previous expenses related to this problem for those who have already had to repair their vehicles.

Notifications will begin to be sent in June 2026. Kia will do so starting on the 2nd, while Genesis will begin contact on the 8th of the same month.
