What was intended to be great return of Kanye Westnow known as Ye, at European scenes seem to be sinking in a domino effect of cancellations and political blockades.
The administrators of the Silesia Stadium, in Chorzów, announced this Friday the definitive cancellation of the rapper’s concert scheduled for June 19after strong pressure from the Polish government.
The decision is based on “formal and legal” reasons.but the background is ethical and political. Poland’s Minister of Culture, Marta Cienkowska, was blunt in declaring that the country cannot host an artist who has openly expressed his admiration for Adolf Hitler.
“I cannot imagine that in Poland, a country where people were murdered in Nazi death camps, we would organize a concert by someone who promotes that ideology and profits from swastikas,” the official stated at a press conference.
A veto that spreads throughout Europe
This setback in Poland is not an isolated case. Recently, The United Kingdom also prevented the entry of the rapper, who was scheduled to perform at the Wi-fi Competition in London. On that occasion, the British Home Office, backed by Prime Minister Keir Starmer, argued that West’s presence “would not be beneficial to the public good.”
Despite The artist has tried to justify his anti-Semitic statements as a consequence of a mental health crisis and episodes of bipolarity, European institutions are showing a “zero tolerance” policy.
This week, The rapper also announced the indefinite suspension of his next concert in MarseilleFrance, after an intense loyal and political offensive led by the French government to prevent its action in French territory.
The tour, managed by the organizer Projekt Hałas!, included dates in seven other countries that are now under the shadow of uncertainty.
