The advance of artificial intelligence is not only transforming industries, it is also redefining which jobs have the greatest future in the United States. For young people looking to make their way into the job market, There is one position that stands out above the rest: that of artificial intelligence (AI) engineer.currently considered the fastest growing, according to recent data from LinkedIn.
The platform’s report analyzed millions of profiles to identify which roles have gained the most traction in entry-level hires over the past three years. The result puts AI engineers at the top for the second year in a rowreflecting strong demand for talent with advanced technological skills.
“It’s measuring the momentum of these job titles,” explained Kory Kantenga, head of economics for the Americas at LinkedIn. “Companies are devouring talent in artificial intelligence”.
Between 2023 and 2025, 639,000 vacancies related to artificial intelligence were published in the United States. Of them, nearly 75,000 corresponded specifically to the role of AI engineerwhich shows its growing relevance within the labor market.
This professional profile focuses on creating and managing systems based on artificial intelligence. Their tasks include the development of models capable of making decisions, identifying patterns or generating inferences, as well as their implementation in business processes. Additionally, these specialists must constantly evaluate the performance of such systems and adjust them when necessary.
“Ultimately, it’s about building modelsmeaning they are creating something that can make decisions, make inferences, or identify patterns, and then they need to be able to evaluate those models and update them accordingly,” Kantenga described.
The technology sector leads the hiring of these professionals, followed by financial services. However, the demand is not limited to these areas; There are also opportunities at universities, consulting firms and defense contractors. Many offerings highlight benefits such as improving efficiency, solving business problems, and reducing repetitive tasks.
Despite this growth, the outlook for young people at unusual remains challenging. The unemployment rate for people between 20 and 24 years old reached 6.4% in Marchabove the national average of 4.3%, according to official data. This context reflects that entering the labor market can be more complicated for those who are just starting out.
The impact of artificial intelligence is also being felt in other types of employment. A Harvard Business School study found that jobs with structured and repetitive tasks decreased by 13% after the launch of ChatGPT in 2022suggesting a possible replacement of certain functions by technology.
If the effect of technological automation and artificial intelligence were not enough challenges, the competition is getting stronger. Many young people report submitting dozens or even hundreds of applications before landing a job. LinkedIn also found that hiring for entry-level positions fell 6% between December 2025 and February 2026, compared to the same period last year.
“Getting started and entering the job market right now probably requires some level of AI aptitude or literacy to move forward, because companies are increasingly looking for people who can bring that skill, help them scale, and define the best uses of AI,” Kantenga concluded.
If something differentiates us from staunch artificial intelligence, it is our ability to adapt and renew. If AI is the work trend at the moment, train yourself and take advantage of it, because it is highly valued among companies.
