Rubén Gallego, senator from Arizona and who for years was a friend of Eric Swalwell, candidate for governor of California, admits having fallen for his deception when he realized that he had been leading a double life for years governed by inappropriate sexual behavior.
The scandal linked to the 45-year-old former Democratic congressman arose a few days ago following an article published by the newspaper San Francisco Fable where a former Swalwell employee reported him for allegedly sexually assaulting her first in 2019 and again in 2024.
The controversial thing about the matter is that the alleged victim seems to be just the tip of the iceberg, since armed with courage, three other women also dared to point out the Iowa politician for alleged inappropriate sexual behavior.
When the news spread, Swalwell eventually gave in to pressure from his party leaders and resigned from Congress, but he also ended his aspirations to run for governor.
Apparently his objective was to try to demonstrate as soon as possible that there was someone wishing to harm him, since the results of some polls showed him among the favorite candidates to compete to govern California to replace Gavin Newsom whose term expires next January.

However, the testimony of Lonna Drewes who, at a conference held in Los Angeles, California, pointed him out as responsible for drugging her and then taking advantage of her while they were in a resort room in 2018, ended up sinking him further in the eyes of public opinion.
In fact, Some of his former friends, such as Rubén Gallego, are trying to distance themselves, as they admit they feel disappointed.
“Eric Swalwell lied to all of us… My friendship with him, our family’s friendship with him, clouded my judgment and I was wrong. I am deeply sorry.
This man led a double life. He lied to us, “He lied to his family, he lied to his constituents, some of the most powerful people in this country,” said the senator during a meeting with the press in Congress.
Gallego even indicated that he was willing to share with the authorities any text message or communication with Eric Swalwell, if required.
