The accusations of inappropriate sexual conduct that have affected Congressman Eric Swalwell continue to generate controversy, even after his recent withdrawal from the California gubernatorial race and his decision to resign from his seat in Congress.

Ally Sammarco and Annika Albrecht, two women who accuse him of misconduct, expressed in an interview with CBS News that they feel “vindicated” by their departure from politics, but they also pointed out that there is still work to do.

Sammarco, who presented his accusation in a report by CNN, She said she was pleased to see how Swalwell faced the consequences of his actions. “They cornered him, basically, because they were planning to expel him… so I think he did it to save face a little bit,” he said.

“But I also felt very vindicated to see that he realized that everything was over for him,” she added.

The accusations against Eric Swalwell

Albrecht, who came forward as a complainant for the first time, stressed that justice would only be achieved when Swalwell could not harm any women again and faced the consequences of his actions. “There will be no justice until he faces consequences for the women he has harmed,” she said.

The allegations against Swalwell, which include allegations of sexual assault and sending unsolicited explicit messages and photosbegan to emerge in recent days. These complaints contributed to the collapse of his political aspirations. The Democratic congressman resigned his candidacy for governor of California and announced his departure from Congress on Monday.

Swalwell has denied the allegations, calling them “false.” and suggesting that they are part of a strategy to sabotage his political career.

However, both Sammarco and Albrecht denied any accusation that the complaints were part of a political campaign coordinated by their opponents.

“We didn’t know each other before. I didn’t know any of the other women,” Sammarco said. “We got in touch through this process, and I’m very glad that we did,” he added.

Swalwell’s alleged inappropriate conduct

The process began about two weeks ago, when Albrecht contacted Cheyenne Hunt, an influencer, to share her story about Swalwell. Hunt later posted a video in which several women, including Sammarco and Albrecht, alleged the congressman’s inappropriate behavior. Before long, more women contacted Hunt, detailing similar experiences.

According to Hunt, one of the women described a “full-blown act of aggression”, prompting a flood of testimony about Swalwell’s inappropriate behavior.

The Long Island District Attorney’s Office confirmed Sunday that it is investigating sexual assault allegations made by an unnamed former employee in California and New York. Swalwell has denied these charges and threatened legal action against the woman who made the accusation.

For his part, Albrecht recalled the discomfort caused by the idea that Swalwell could become governor of California.

“I felt compelled to speak because the thought that he could become governor made me feel physically ill and nauseous,” she said.

Messages on social networks

Regarding personal interactions with Swalwell, Sammarco recounted how she began a professional relationship with him, through text messages and social media, which later became more explicit.

“He sent me photos of his face… in many of them he was seen drinking. He asked me if I drank too or he told me that I should have something with him”Sammarco said. The situation worsened when, according to her testimony, Swalwell sent her an explicit photo.

Albrecht also shared her experience, detailing how the congressman began contacting her under the guise of being her professional mentor. However, Snapchat messages, initially professional, they gradually became more flirtatious until they became sexually inappropriate.

Albrecht recalled that one day Swalwell proposed meeting him at a resort, which made his intentions clear. “I can’t stop thinking about how lucky I was not to have gone to that resort,” Albrecht said.

In response to the testimonies, Hunt explained that many women have shared similar stories, some of which involve situations of abuse and lack of consent. Despite Swalwell’s resignation, the women who have spoken out insist their fight is not over.

“It is clear that there must be another reckoning,” said Hunt, who added that women who have dared to speak out are now being supported and listened to. “This fight is not over. We are just beginning,” he concluded.
