Derived from intelligence work and field work carried out by Sonora authorities, in collaboration with the Secretariat of the Navy (Semar), Secretariat of National Defense and the National Guard (GN), A tunnel heading towards the United States was discovered and disabled and they arrested one person.
According to a statement issued by the Security Cabinet, the passage is located in the city of Nogales and it is a rustic excavation with a depth of 4.5 meters and a length of seventy nine metersheading towards the border and with no exit enabled.
In addition, it was reported that 21 useful cartridges were seized from the detained person, who was carrying out surveillance work for a prison group.
The authorities will continue with the investigations, while the property was sealed and under police guard.

US Ambassador expresses recognition
After the discovery of this tunnel was announced, the United States ambassador to Mexico, Ronald Johnsonhighlighted bilateral collaboration to stop those who traffic drugs, weapons and people, ensuring that “they have nowhere to hide” and must be held accountable.
The official added that the joint work includes operations on land, sea and underground. According to the ambassador, the objective is to protect the population and keep the communities of both countries safe.
“Whether by land, sea or even underground, those who traffic drugs, weapons and people are being arrested. When we work together, they have nowhere to hide,” Johnson said on social media.
