A civil trial takes place after a lawsuit over the shooting of a Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) officer in which teenager Valentina Orellana-Peralta died at a Burlington store in North Hollywood in December 2021.
In Los Angeles Superior Court, attorneys presented their opening statements on Wednesday in the case centered on Valentina’s death. for which his relatives filed a lawsuit for wrongful death.
On December 23, 2021, Valentina was in the Burlington storein North Hollywood, accompanied by her mother trying on dresses when she was hit by a bullet fired by a Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) officer.

Valentina and her mother hid in a fitting room when an incident broke out inside the store. A bullet went through the wall of the place where the daughter and mother were, and hit the 14-year-old girl.
LAPD officers responded to calls about the attack of a man with a bicycle chain against two women in the store.
As armed officers searched the store, on the second floor of the store, Officer William Dorsey Jr. fired his rifle three times, killing the suspect and Valentina Orellana-Peralta.

In the lawsuit, Valentina’s parents They allege wrongful death, negligence and negligent cause of emotional distress.
According to the lawsuit, Valentina’s mother, Soledad Peralta, stated that she felt her daughter’s body collapse. as he watched Valentina die in his arms.
The complaint alleges that the LAPD failed to adequately train and supervise officers who responded to the emergency callin addition to allowing an environment that facilitated the shooting.
